Former girls’ school

This old girls’ school stands in the centre of the village of Néret. A historic site that has been given a new purpose. No headmaster calling out that lessons are about to begin, but a France enthusiast calling out that it’s lunchtime!

The school building
The classrooms have all been given a new purpose. On the right-hand side of the long corridor is a dining room, with an old built-in cupboard in the corner. Next to it is the kitchen, with its straight worktop, gas hob, extractor hood, fridge and oven. This room is heated by a wood-burning stove. On the other side of the corridor are two bedrooms (13.6 m²).

There is a second (side) entrance, which provides access to the kitchen, the bathroom and the living room. The bathroom is functional and features a shower cubicle, washbasin and toilet. The living room has undoubtedly once housed many school desks, where the girls must surely have gazed dreamily out of the windows on either side during lessons. Now it is a spacious living room (30 m²) heated by a wood-burning stove. The ceiling height is approximately 3.30 metres, which makes the polystyrene ceiling less noticeable. The old brown tiled floor has been left intact. The property is suitable for ground-floor living and there are no thresholds inside the house.

The large open attics are accessible from the hallway. If desired, additional bedrooms could be created here.

Works carried out
The property has a new septic tank, the electrical wiring has been updated, and the roof tiles were cleaned and treated this year. The window frames in the living room and bathroom will soon be replaced with PVC frames fitted with double glazing.

The property can be sold furnished.

The former school yard
The garden covers over 800 m². Seating areas have been created both at the front of the property and by the side entrance. There are views of the Mairie, the former washhouse and the fountain with the statue of Saint Martin. A terrace has also been built at the rear of the living room, as there is such a lovely view of the church from here.

Opposite the side terrace are several outbuildings with partial roofing, where garden tools and furniture can be stored. An open section is ideal as a shaded terrace or for an outdoor kitchen. To the side is the bûcher for storing wood. A separate small stone building, consisting of two sections (3x3 m and 3x2.90 m), provides additional storage space. There is ample parking on the property.

An ideal house for France enthusiasts who love history, aren’t necessarily keen on DIY, and appreciate modern living comforts.

Location and amenities
The house is situated on the outskirts of the village of Néret, in the Indre. It is approximately 15 km from La Châtre, a lively town with a charming centre offering numerous amenities such as cafés, outdoor terraces, various supermarkets and shops (including chain stores). On Saturdays, there is a lively market in the centre. Another village with amenities, including a large supermarket, is just 4 km away. The surrounding area is ideal for long walks or cycle rides.

The nearest active railway station (SNCF) with regular services are Gare de Châteauroux, located on the Paris–Limoges–Toulouse railway line, is at 45 kilometers distance. From this station, you can take bus services (regional bus routes on the Rémi network) to reach the area around La Châtre. The nearest airport with scheduled flights near Néret  is Limoges Airport (Limoges – Bellegarde, LIG) or Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne (CFE).
