Millers used to have a very important role in the area, without water mills there would be no flour, oil or wood. Many years later, turbines were installed in these mills to generate electricity. With the construction of large dams, the water mills all became useless and fell into disrepair. So did this mill. ‘Moulin du Pont Gival’ on a little river became unemployed in the early 1950s. The current owners saved it from ruin.

Fully renovated
Over the past 27 years, the building has been thoroughly restored while maintaining the mill's character. This included a completely new roof, all doors and window frames renewed and fitted with rod division with double-glazing. Floors and ceilings have been renewed with the beams in sight.

All (new) floors are solid oak floors except for the kitchen diner, which is a mosaic stone floor. In winter, the rooms are kept warm by two cosy wood-burners providing four-season comfort in this water mill. Its direct location on the little river, le Doustre is fairy-tale-like and offers opportunities to cool off in summer. Located amidst the forests, it is an eldorado for hikers.

Layout of the house
On the ground floor is a spacious kitchen, toilet, separate dining room, living room, master ensuite bedroom (shower and toilet). On the 1st floor are four spacious bedrooms, two of which are ensuites (shower and toilet). The central hall access to the bathroom and a separate toilet. Everything is nicely finished, preserving original details and ready to use or to receive guests.

Surroundings
The medieval village of La Roche Canillac has 125 inhabitants and can be reached within five minutes by car or thirty minutes walk. You will find the town hall, a doctor, a small supermarket and a bakery.

The tourist towns of Argentat and Tulle can be reached in 30 car-minutes and have all facilities (restaurants, markets, large supermarkets etc).
