Lac de Vassivière


The Lac de Vassivière is well known in the Limousin. It is a reservoir, measures 9.76 km2 and is the most important water supply of the Limousin. It is one of the largest artificial lakes in France. The dam is made of reinforced concrete and was constructed between 1947 and 1950, which is mainly fed by the Maulde river. The Lac de Vassiviere is located northwest of the Millevaches plateau. There are several small beaches that also have a guarded area for small swimmers in the summer. You can pedal boats, but also canoeing and sailing. A number of villages have a public tennis court. There are a number of small marina ports. Around the lake you will find various restaurants, pizzerias and pancake houses. A sailing school is also located on the Lac de Vassivière. An activities/climbing park is just a few kilometers away. In short, there is plenty to do in the area for water sports enthusiasts! For the practical things like groceries there are at least several small supermarkets open in the summer. Large (er) supermarkets can be found in the nearby Peyrat le Chateau, Eymoutiers or Royère-de-Vassivière. The area is also ideal for walks on marked trails, cycling (cycling or mountain bike). A perfect environment for the sporty enjoyer!
